sewing: chalk bag and dog collar

DSCN2677 DSCN2676 DSCN2672 Untitled DSCN2653 Untitled
yesterday i made a chalk bag and a new collar for drew's dog layla.

to make the dog collar, i took 20 inches of 1inch wide webbing. simply sewed a strip of fabric 2.5 inches wide together with right sides facing with 1/2 inch seam allowances. i cut the extra fabric on the seam, turned it inside out and slid it onto the webbing. i finished the edges of the fabric then sewed those onto the webbing. next i attached a side release buckle by putting one side of the collar through one side of the buckle then doing the same on the other side. i sewed the ends to keep the buckle in place.
layla's looking good now.

to make the chalk bag, i used a velveteen print and a flannel print for the outside of the bag and a jersey knit for the inside. i also used some webbing and a drawstring stopper.
i basically just cut out 4 pieces (two of the inside fabric, two from the outside velveteen) of the basic shape of the chalk bag. then i cut two strips of inside fabric and outside flannel fabric for the space between the two basic shapes.
i sewed the outside pieces together and then the inside pieces together. i made a button hole on one side of the flannel outside piece. then placed the inside piece into the outside piece and added the drawstring through the button hole and finished it with the stopper and the knot to keep the stopper from sliding off.
to finish the bag, i sewed the inside and outside pieces together at the top hems. i added binding for a clean finish and two webbing straps for a carabiner.
just add chalk.
