Dramatic Mode

This weekend, we decided to stay in Jackson. We have off work for the 4th of July and the weather seems relatively nice for our little three day break.  Today, our first weekend day, we decided to climb No Perches Necessary in the park with our friend Scott.  It's a fun 2-pitch 5.9 with easy belays and bolted anchors and you get to take the Jenny Lake Boat across. Basically a casual afternoon climb.

There was already a group of climbers on the route when we arrived. There were three of them and two of the party were completely inexperienced.  We tried to help as much as possible to get them moving and save some time, but ultimately decided to attempted a random arete on the south side of the pillar.

David led up this unnamed/unclimbed (first ascent?????) route on the arete to the left of No Perches Necessary. Scott followed him up as they set an anchor at the end of the first pitch.  They then linked up with the top of the second pitch of No Perches Necessary and rapped down.  I hopped on the other group's rope once they managed to all get down, and climbed the first pitch of the route.

Over all, the day was fun and exciting and HOT! There are fires in Idaho right now that have pushed some hot haze into the valley, trapping a little bit of heat in our Hole.
It is really nice to be in town for some of our days and actually enjoy Jackson.  With the 4th coming up, we wanted to be around to experience all the fun free concerts and float the river with our friends.

And get on some alpine trad.

Next week, we're leaving again and heading to Lander for the climbing festival!  Check back with us next Friday for an update :)
